Welcome to Northside

Northside is one of those parts of Richmond that feels distinctly its own. Located just north of the city center, it’s a collection of historic neighborhoods filled with beautiful architecture, front porches, old trees, and homes with the kind of character that simply can’t be recreated. If you love an older home but want a little more space than you might find in some of Richmond’s denser neighborhoods, Northside can be a really compelling option.

The neighborhoods here each have their own personality, with Bellevue, Ginter Park, Sherwood Park, and Laburnum Park among some of the best known. You’ll find everything from charming bungalows and classic brick Colonials to grand historic homes along some of the area’s most beautiful residential streets. There’s a strong neighborhood feel throughout Northside, and many pockets are walkable to local restaurants, coffee shops, parks, and neighborhood gathering spots.

One of our favorite areas to explore is Bellevue, particularly around MacArthur Avenue. Grab dinner at Demi’s or Dot’s Back Inn, then wander through the surrounding streets to get a feel for the neighborhood. Northside is also home to some of Richmond’s most recognizable destinations, including Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and Bryan Park, giving residents plenty of green space without leaving this part of town.

For someone drawn to history, architecture, and a neighborhood that feels established and full of personality, Northside should absolutely be on the list. It offers a slightly different flavor of Richmond, but still feels unmistakably Richmond.

Don't Miss

  • Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden (one of the country's premier botanical gardens and a year-round favorite)
  • RVA Antiques (treasure hunting through one of Richmond's best antique markets)
  • Demi's (a longtime neighborhood favorite for breakfast and lunch)
  • Stir Crazy Cafe RVA (cozy neighborhood coffee shop on MacArthur Avenue)
  • Bryan Park (walking trails, disc golf, pickleball, and one of Richmond's largest farmers markets)
