The Fan is quintessential Richmond. Named for the way its streets “fan” out as you head west from downtown, this is a neighborhood where historic architecture and true city living go hand in hand.
 
If your idea of Richmond living means being able to walk out your front door and have restaurants, coffee shops, neighborhood bars, parks, and local businesses within blocks, The Fan should be high on your list. It’s one of Richmond’s most walkable neighborhoods, with destinations scattered throughout rather than concentrated in one commercial center. You’re also incredibly close to VCU, Carytown, the Museum District, and downtown.
 
Part of the fun of The Fan is finding your own favorite neighborhood spots. We love Kuba Kuba for a casual meal at a longtime Richmond favorite, Joe’s Inn for a Richmond classic, and Helen’s when you want dinner or drinks in a spot that feels every bit as historic and eclectic as the neighborhood around it. For shopping, Carytown is just minutes away and packed with local boutiques, specialty shops, restaurants, and Richmond favorites.
 
The tradeoff for all of that walkability and location is space. Homes are generally closer together, yards can be small, and off-street parking isn’t always a given. In fact, designated parking can be a particularly valuable feature when buying a home in The Fan! But for the person who cherishes old architecture and wants to feel woven into the energy of the city, The Fan is hard to beat.
